WTN: 2007 Ridge Geyserville

by Jenise » Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:09 pm

Decided on a lark that our taco dinner last night would make a good background for opening our first 2007 Ridge Geyserville . My experience with Geyserville is that they drink very well all through their fairly long lives. I've never had one, that is, that I regretted opening: until now.

Drunk out of a burg bowl because that's what my husband inexplicably chose and I didn't want to tell him he'd done wrong. Overripe nose of plum jam and a little spice, on the plate rich flavors of more plum jam, kirsch, nectarine and bramble but there's actually a hollow spot there and the liqueur-ish finish is tangled up in tannins. It's a monster which needs a lot more time--I won't touch another for at least five years when hopefully it will have shed some of this weight.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Thanks for the note Jenise. Looks like it will only get better.

The 2007 Lytton is drinking much better than what you report on the Geezer, but, there is no reason to get in a hurry about the Lytton either. I usually think that the Geezer is about the last of Drapers zins to come around. Sounds like the '07 is acting as it should.

I tasted the 07 geezer when it was released and thought enough of it to put a whole case in my cellar, somehing I don't usually do very often. A little time will tell. I've been wrong before and had even more expensive wine end up at casual picnics. :(

Lou, if this happens, I would sure like to go to your picnics. Heck, if it doesn't happen, and you have a picnic, I would sure like to go! :-)
