WTN: Finally, a good grenache blanc

by Jenise » Fri Jul 09, 2010 11:45 am

Another one of the wines brought by a guest on the Fourth that didn't get opened. One I'd have avoided, because every single version of grenache blanc I've had--from Spain to California--has been white-peach sweet and low on acidity. This one is neither: 2008 Las Colinas del Ebro, Terra Alta, Spain. Mind you it wasn't leaping all over the place with tremendous character or anything, but it's mild fruit and grassy flavors were boosted with good acidity and it was a very very refreshing bottle for a 90F evening on the patio.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

So do you get a Grenache Blanc from Abel Clement. It is currently 2008 and sells down here for $6 and is southern French. They also have a red Grenache for the same price. I have found little to compete at this price.

Larry Schaeffer makes a nice Grenache Blanc at Tercero.

Yes I've had it and it's not bad, especially at the price. But it's definitely softer/riper than this wine.
