WTN: `06 Bodega Noemia de Patagonia A Lisa Malbec, Rio Negro.
There was an enlightening discussion/tasting about Argentian Malbec in a recent issue of Decanter (no groans please) and some wines were the south were mentioned positively......."thought the Patagonia wines were fresher" was one comment. No real track record as of yet so with interest I opened my `06 from this progressive bodega in the far south, besides the cool zone Rio Negro.
Good natural cork, opened and decanted for one hour. 14.3% alc, $29 Cdn, cellared for 2 years. 10% Merlot blended in I believe........ http://www.bodeganoemia.com
Color. Darkish inky center, purple rim with no sign of age.
Nose. Some oak still, blueberry, blackberry, smoke for sure. Not a lot of spice here however.
Palate. Initial entry impression was off-dry, full fruit bodied, soft tannins, could be more than 10% merlot here? Quite approachable, "elegant but not style of malbec as I know it" from across the table.
All those berry nuances follow through on the taste, tad hollow on the mid-palate perhaps but finish is good. Overall enjoyable but I will continue to look around for other new arrivals.
***** Pinot Noir from these guys might be of interest eh.
