Recommended wine stores in Pittsburgh, PA

by Ehud W » Wed Jul 07, 2010 5:49 am

Hi,

Coming from Israel I am going to spend a few days around Pittsburgh, PA.
I'll be grateful for recommendations from any of you about wine stores (yes, yes - good selection and good prices!) around.

I thought Pennsylvania operated a state store monopoly system (did last time I was there) and that doesn't bode well for inventive selections or bargain prices.

See http://www.finewineandgoodspirits.com for whats available....

Yes, PA is a state operated wine sales operation with several hundred state Wine and Spirits store throughout the state with many in the Pittsburgh area. Look for "Chairman's Selections" specials (some are highly discounted, some are closeouts, etc). Best to be knowledgeable of what you're looking for since many of the store staff are not wine savvy.

I missed this one too. Sorry Ehud. Pennsylvania is a horrible place to buy wine. Some state stores are better than others. There are a few which specialize in wine sales. I know there is one near East Liberty. Maybe Mike Hughes could help us out! My in-laws live there, but I carry my wine into the state.
