What is the best wine for a Hurricane?

I would say something sturdy, like a Port or Banyuls. But having never been in a hurricane, I'm tempted to say Leaving the Area would also be a good plan.

When you're on on island, leaving is generally not an option. Bermuda is used to these little blows, I doubt it will be much, but I would start with any wines you think might be ruined by long-term exposure to no airconditioning or other lack of electricity. Hpefully it will be cool after the storm b/c you never know how long it will take them to get the current back up.

I'm not sure about a hurricane but after a long dry summer, I got up about a week ago to it raining like hell and cold (at least comparatively). I said to myself this is a beef stew and cabernet day... and so it was.

How are you faring? Did the storm take out the electricity? It looks from the reports that Bermuda didn't take a direct hit. I would say that it is time for some champagne! Hope all is well where you are.

Thanks guys. I went with Brunello Di Montalcino - Campogiovanni 1999. For the sole reason it was the most expensive wine in the shop I went to. Drinkable anyway.

And I had a couple "Dark and Stormys" the national drink of Bermuda.

Island is back to normal. Power was off for a couple hours. Beautiful day today.

Some of the most beautiful weather is the day after a big storm. I'm glad to hear you made it through. The Brunello sounds like a great choice. Any notes? What is a "dark and stormy"?

I wasn't paying much attention to the wine, but it was definitely Italian if that means anything. Dark, big, a little tart. Could use some more time in the bottle I think.

Agree to the fullest extent. No power for a few hours gets rough. More than a day or two and the family would have been on the first plane to the East Coast.
