WTN: Drouhin White Burg, Provence Pink

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jul 04, 2010 9:30 am

Two friends helped us move almost all of our furniture yesterday (getting floors re-done), so we took them out for dinner afterward, and opened two wines:

2006 Joseph Drouhin Chassagne Montrachet
I'm not normally a white burg fan, but one pair of our helping hands loves Chardonnay, so I picked this up. Oh my is it tasty! It does show some spicy oak, but it's not dominating; the fruit is crystal-pure and refreshing. I wouldn't age it more than a year or so (maybe let the oak fade a touch) because it's so good now. I may be buying more white burg.

2009 Commanderie de Peyrassol (Cotes de Provence)
This tastes of ripe strawberries from the field. It was hot yesterday, and the crispness of this wine was most welcome. It did show a bit of alcohol on the finish though, but when kept cold it was fine.

Brave man!

But I guess if you drink them quickly enough, there's not much risk?

I think even without premox fears, the 06s are wines for the shorter term, but many are delicious already.

Thus making them perfect for my purposes: drink now.
