Jean Michel Gerin Cote Rotie La Landonne 1998
Exceptionally dark, bordering on completely obscure. Nose of violets, dark fruits, some wood. On the palate, incredible volume of fruit with just enough acidity to carry it through the mouth and into a long, long finish. Some leather but no bacon. A lovely continuing high note of alcohol and acidity to balance the deep fruit flavours. The best Cote Rotie I can remember having in a long, long time. This is as good as the best La-Las but in a slightly different way. A really BIG wine on the palate and exceptional length. At least in this case, 1998 has turned out perfectly. OUTSTANDING & Classic
