2005 Alexander Valley. Only 13.0% abv. definitely a lighter (in color and flavor), fruity style of cabernet. When popped and poured, there were some meaty/savory/soy notes. These became less prevalent with air, leaving very pleasant bright berry fruit as the dominant character. Not a big wine, not a particularly complex wine, and somewhat lacking in Cabernet typicite, this is nonetheless a very, very pleasant summer quaffer. The alcohol does not assault you, you are not tasting layers of vanilla (or worse, dill pickle), the tannins are not particularly astringent. Simple and fruity and pleasant, but very delicious for that type of wine.
While we were drinking this, I was paging through Wine Enthusiast, and they gave the 2008 vintage a 92! Not sure the 2005 had the complexity or Cabernet typicite to warrant this high a score, but as a nice summer quaffer, you can't go wrong here.
