Wines at Bernie's place with Johnny and Aaron. All wines provided by Bernie.

Chateau Pape Clement Blanc 2004 - Smoky and rich. New Worldy kind of wine. Johnny kept saying it had a New World Chardonnay feel to it. I think maybe the oak gave it that vibe. Very good and polished.

Penfolds Bin 707 1991 - Very dark for its age. Attractive nose. Slightly pruney. Ripe fruit and sweet. Full bodied. Very smooth. Long and savory finish. Impressive wine and at peak now. A great 707.

Penfolds Grange 1981 - Very dark. Lots of tobacco and leather. Smooth. Rhone-like dried herbs. Minty. Quite savory. Bittersweet chocolate, camphor and orange peel. This has an Old World feel to it. Very dry, rather acidic finish which is a bit of a jolt. Very good and complex. Just about peaking now. Perhaps not a great Grange (I preferred the 707) but still, a lovely wine.

We finished with an excellent Bas-Armagnac 1979 (I failed to take note of its name) while listening to Bernie's vinyl collection on his awesome stereo system.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
