Notes from lunch at Premium Wine Exchange.
Damilano Langhe Arneis 2008 - Floral and honeyed nose. Crisp, light, easy, refreshing. There is a very subtle overripe, butterscotch aspect to the flavor but it stays in the background and does not add any weight to the wine.
Marchesi de Frescobaldi Chianti Rufina Montesodi 2001 - Still quite dark. Sweet cherries. Ripe fruit, roast meat and smoke. Complex, smooth and very well put together. Soft tannins. A real joy to drink and one of the best Chiantis I've tried. Perfect now. Excellent.
Dominus 1997 - I've been drinking a lot of Dominus lately for some reason. I had this last week and it was really stinky. This one is much more subdued but the stink is still there. Chocolate, with some barnyard underneath. Mostly bittersweet chocolate. Rich and ripe. Excellent and much better than last week's bottle.
Banfi Poggio all' Oro Brunello di Montalcino 1999 - Quite dark. A little jammy and burnt on the nose. Savory. Rather high acidity. Seems a bit out of balance now. Maybe a bit more age will bring this into focus. Judgment reserved.
Gaja Barolo Sperss 1996 - Mushrooms. Asphalt. Still a bit tight on the palate although the tannins are already quite smooth. Very dry. Maybe more decanter time needed.
Red Car The Aphorist Bartolomi Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2008 - Sportng an SQN-like label, this is one of PWX's latest offerings. Very sweet, caramel candy nose. A little herbal as well. Dry on the palate despite the aromas. Weak finish. Cult wine packaging but not interesting beyond the label.
Blackbird Illustration Merlot 2007 - From Napa. Sweet nose. Coffee and cream. Long finish. Polished wine. Good but pricey.
