WTN: Celebratory Riesling

by Salil » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:23 pm

A couple of stunning Rieslings with family and good friends to celebrate the completion of my Masters.

2009 A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberger Riesling Kabinett
Liked this when I had it at the Theise DI tasting yesterday, but when sitting down with a couple of glasses and food it's even more enjoyable. Really great stuff that starts out as apple essence over stone, and with air picks up all sorts of wild gingery and floral notes. Very elegant, light on its feet and long. Yum!

2008 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese
Holy crap is this great. Hard to put into words, just an amazing seamless mixture of fruit, spice, stone and smoke on a frame that's very streamlined and polished; power and depth without weight. Wow.

Very warm wishes to you, one grad student to another!

Congratulations. Which region of Germany is the Dhroner Hofberger? (Is that the correct spelling?)
