Question about a Nicolas Potel Burgundy?

by Jim Grow » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:40 pm

I just bought the last bottle of 2004 Nicolas Potel Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Vignes Franches" for $21 but have no idea of the quality. qpr, or aging potential. I gave up on Burgundy on the 1988 vintage. This was for sale at supposedly "cost". Should I age this further, decant for hours or drink up soon?

Pretty good price, I've not had this particular wine. Potel is negociant, but tends to have good fruit sources. Some people find a big green streak in some 04s, I'm not super sensitive to that. Personally I'd age it a few more years.

That is a very, very good price for Clos des Vignes Franches from anybody in any vintage. Given that, I'd open it sooner rather than later. I mean, who knows where it's been, etc.

Thanks guys for the input. I'll probably open it in the next 6 months.
