WTN: 2010 Theise DI Tasting - The Austrian Values

by David M. Bueker » Wed Jun 23, 2010 12:35 pm

See how I am skillfully delaying the hard work of posting my German notes...

First some value wines from Austria (liter bottlings):

2009 Ecker Gruner Veltliner (Wagram)
Slightly spicy, green fruit & stone. Fine balance between fruit and earth elements. Good+

2008 Ecker Zweigelt (Wagram)
Bouncy red fruits. Fresh & easy to drink. They could sell a lot of this if there was a roast chicken available for pairing. Good+

2009 Setzer Gruner Veltliner (Weinviertel)
Shows the herbs and stone side of Gruner Veltliner. Good

2009 E&M Berger Gruner Veltliner (Kremstal)
The fruitiest of the 3 liter bottles I sampled. This is the friendly puppy dog. Way too easy to drink. An elixir for a summer day. Very good

2009 E&M Berger Zweigelt (Kremstal)
Read notes for the Ecker above. I tried them side by side & they were very similar. Both are a lot of fun. The Beaujolais of Austria!
