This weekend I opened one more
Domaine de la Pépière Granite de Clisson 2007 which is just superb Muscadet: leesy, mineral, citric; full bodied in comparison to most other Muscadet I've tried, but wonderfully nervy and delineated. Awesome.

And a
Heinrich St. Laurent 2007 from Burgenland. I have previously written very positive notes on Heinrich's Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, but this third varietal wine, though generally the favourite of the three varietals they make, was my least favourite. This is because of a very simple reason, that won't bother most drinkers: a slight hint of spicy oak that doesn't blow off even with several hours in the glass. Otherwise, I do see slight kinship with Pinot Noir with its sexy fruit, refreshing acidity and silkiness. Even I got some pleasure from this, but my pleasure would have been so much greater with less of the spicy oak component.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
