No notes taken, so just impressions: a 2002 Silver Oak Napa made me realize that I don't hate Silver Oak after all. Okay, it's got quite a bit of oak on it and it seemed rather simple when compared to the next wine, sure, but it slid down my throat quite easily. Drinks well now, wouldn't hold. The next wine did a much better job of holding my attention, though, it was the 1999 Freemark Abbey Bosche Vineyard. I remember reading that this wine was a tad on the green side, and indeed I found some green bell pepper here but it was good green in a Bordeaux kind of way and that was precisely why it was the better match with the minty risotto and rack of lamb. Drinks well now but should continue to improve with further cellaring.
A 2005 Ambullneo 'Fang Blanc' Chardonnay from California was quite complex and delish. A bit riper than it's Chablis-ish cousin the Big Paw but still overall more European than most Californians, but there's no hint of oxidation and every bottle is more interesting than the last. I really should look for more Ambullneo wines, these chardonnays have been SO impressive.
