I was at the mall last Saturday with an hour to kill and so I dropped by Wine Story to see if they had anything interesting in their machines. Carlo, the Sommelier in the store recommended the following wines:
Domaine de Chevalier 2003 - Sweet nose with a touch of earth. Remarkably sweet and ripe. Mouth-filling and open-knit. Firm, dry finish. Earthiness all throughout. Needs a few more years to shed the tannins. Very good but better to try in 2 years or so.
Chateau Pape Clement 2003 - Classic Bordeaux nose. Cedar, cigar box. Full, rich and meaty. Earthiness shows on the palate. Savory. Very tannic. Impressive wine. Excellent and majestic. Needs maybe 5 years to soften.
Sirius Petite Sirah 2006 - From the Eaglepoint Ranch in Mendocino and made by Sean Thackrey. Black/purple. Jam and a touch of pepper on the nose. Sweet and big but very well balanced. Tobacco leaf. Spicy, tannic finish. This should really be left alone for a bit but is very hard not to like right now. Very well-made and polished. Excellent stuff.
