WTN: Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Jun 12, 2010 12:30 pm

Marlborough

Light yellow in the glass.

Gooseberry on the nose.

Medium weight, zippy acidity, gooseberry, lemon, a hint of orange, herbal, soft and full in the mouth, very clean and refreshing.

Lemon-lime, very clean and lightly mouthwatering on the finish.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Bruce, that sounds a heck of a lot better than my Black Box SB.

I am seeing more and more New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs but this is not one of them. This week I did get to taste one from Isabel, also Marlborough with one of the owners, Mike Tiller. It was 2009 and showed a more lime character with moderate aggressiveness. This will do well for the majority. My favorites are still Saint Clair Wairau Reserve, Mud House, and Palliser Estate which is from Martinborough. Next Saturday I am doing my New Zealand in-store tasting with about 20 wines from about 8 producers. We now have in our market Man 'O War from Waiheke Island.
