This is Gallo trying to stick its finger in the eye of Constellation's "Blackstone." The first vintage in 2005, as I understand it, had a lot of Rodney Strong Sonoma fruit, and was like getting $20 Sonoma Merlot for half price. Since then, I have no idea where the juice has been coming from, but standards are more or less being maintained. As cheap California Merlot goes, it's better than average. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the stuff. For just a little more you can get a WA 90-pointer from Santa Ema.
