WebMD: Wine, the fountain of youth?

by Robin Garr » Tue Jun 01, 2010 11:07 am

I luvs me wine, and I want to believe that moderate consumption is healthy. Something about the tone of this WebMD interview makes me want to take it with a grain of salt, though, even if it is a doc doing the talking.

Is Drinking Wine a Key to Antiaging?

No kidding, especially the part where it says "Drinking a glass of red wine a day is the single most important thing that you can do other than nonsmoking, from an antiaging point of view."

Really? It's the single most important thing? I mean, that's awesome if it's true, but I just don't buy it when anyone starts tossing around absolutes like that, even a doctor.

Check that. ESPECIALLY a doctor.

I would have guessed that overextracted wines would have more polyphenols/resveratrol than European wines (which are not as extracted, right?). Interesting that he implies that a glass is an "adjunct" to nip and tuck :D

I'm all for moderate wine consumption as being "good for us" when taken as part of a general life-style but with regard to anti-aging this article is full of (as our Russian compatriots might put it) bullshitsky.
