WTN: Occhipinti SP 68; Signorello Pinot Noir

2008 Occhipinti SP 68 (Nero D'Avola and Frappanti) Sicillian "hispter" bottling. Pinkish ruby color with a LOT of sediment and cloudyness. Earthy, funky "hipster wine" flavors, but the cherry and berry notes went very well with the mixed Paella (clams, mussels, sausage, chicken).

2007 Signorello Las Amigas Vineyard (Carneros) Pinot Noir. I'd be hard pressed to find a Signorello wine that I dislike. This was a wonderful Pinot Noir, with balanced, earthy, forest floor flavors, plenty of acidity, nice black cherry flavors. Only complaint might be it lacks what I consider Carneros typicite in that the cherry is BLACK cherry instead of the more common candied red cherry I've found. But, as I dislike that more typical flavor profile.....

Also...stopped at Bouchaine Winery in Carneros Monday afternoon. They had a KILLER Sonoma Coast (from near Petaluma, actually) Syrah that was full of bright, juicy fruit and delicious acidity. Maybe a tad richer than Northern Rhone, but not goopy or alcoholic in any way. Their Pinot Meunier bottling was quite nice as well...extremely silky.
