WTN: EdStJohn TheShadow Syrah '02...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:31 am

Cracked this last night w/ my arugula/SerannoHam samwich:
1. EdmundsStJohn TheShadow Calif Syrah (13.9%; www.EdmundsStJohn.com) Wayward Pilgrims of the Vine/AmericanCanyon 2002: Very dark color; lovely blackberry/Syrah/very spicy/bit licorice slight smokey/pungent/coffee/peppery somewhat complex rather classic EdStJ Syrah nose; fairly tart strong/blackberry/Syrah/licorice slight coffee/gamey quite spicy bit hard/tannic flavor; long some hard/tannic strong blackberry/Syrah/licorice/spicy bit rosemary/oregano/coffee/smokey rather structured some complex finish; nose is develping into a classic EdStJ Syrah nose but still a big wine on the palate and needs more age. $12

1. As I recall, this was a blend of all of Steve's '02 Syrahs; ParmaleeHill/Wylie-Fenaughty/Bassetti. And sold for a song (speaking of a song...when's Steve going to come out w/ another CD??). The ususal EdStJ lament.."I shoulda bought more". Happens every time I go back & taste an older EdStJ wine. You'd think I'd learn after all these yrs.

I'm not shocked. And you are not the only one who has never learned. I keep buying 3 of this and 3 of that rather than solid cases of the stuff. Stupid...stupid...stupid.

How did it last this long? I bought as much as I could find and drank it all down right away. It was so yummy in its youth. Who has the patience to age this? I am really not worthy!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Restraint must be your middle name!

(Although yes, I do understand you have enough wine... )
