WTN: 2005 Poggio Le Volpi "Baccarossa" Lazio (Nero Bueno)

Nero Bueno is a new one for me. Heavy, environmentally unsound 8) but cool bottle.

Dark purple color. Nose of plum and raspberry fruit. Palate shows soft fruityness, with raspberry, plum, a touch of vanilla. Hint of bitterness to let you know we are drinking Italian here. Tannins kick in a bit on the finish.

I liked this more at the wine bar last weekend, to be honest. It showed a little more interest then...tonight it was more a simple fruity sipper. Still pleasant, but probably not much more. Will try the remainder of the bottle (corked and refrigerated) tonight.

Slight (Spanishified) misspelling Buono is correct. Not a lot on the internet about it...especially as I cannot really read Italian. :?

OK...I needed to bump this WTN because I tasted the wine a second time after it had been setting on the shelf under cork for 24 hours.

Major transformation. The nose was much richer and spicier, with delicious sweet plum notes. This followed through on the palate...instead of the somewhat disappointing and thin sweetish red we found layers of earth, rich mouth feel, plum fruit, spicy notes, and fantastic black pepper. if I were assigning numbers, I would say 82 the first night and 90+ the second!
