WTN: Ridge Zin Carmichael '07 ATP..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu May 27, 2010 9:52 am

My Kiona Lemberger was unthrilling, so I tried:
1. Ridge Calif Zin Carmichael (4% PS; SonomaCnty; 14.1%; 47 brls; Bttld: 12/08; Drk: 9/08-9/12-9/13: EB) 2007: Dark color; attractive raspberry/blackberry/Zin light vanilla/Am.oak/slight DraperPerfume straightforward/simple Zin nose; soft fairly lush/blackberry/raspberry/Zin light vanilla/oak slight earthy/spicy flavor w/ slight tannins; med.long slight tannic pleasant blackberry/Zin light spicy slight Am.oak/vanilla finish w/ light tannins; a pleasant/quotidian/striaghtforward Ridge Zin but just that; may develop into something interesting in a couple of yrs. $28.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I've never been a big fan of the Carmichael Zin in the Ridge ATP portfolio. Since Ridge has done a bang-up job w/ most of their '07 Zins, I was expecting something more from this wine. It did not deliver that. It is a (small) step above the 3Vllys'07, but just that. However, these Ridge ATPs have a way of turning into something interesting down the road...but it seems a gamble to me at this point.
