WTN: Hannes Sabathi-Weissburgunder Kranachberg 2007

by Wick White » Fri May 21, 2010 5:11 pm

Today I've opened a bottle of Weissburgunder Kranachberg 2007 from vineyard Hannes Sabathi, Gamlitz, Südsteiermark/Austria

Image

Smell: pineapple, apricots and citrusfruit

Taste: Dry, harmonic acids, the oak use is nice, light but full bodied taste, salty minerals, tropical fruit.

Real nice wine to enjoy with light meat like pork or veal

Was 07 a particularly warm year? Sounds a bit tropical for Austria, though not unappealing.

2007 had one of the earliest spring times in history, and july was the hottest month in history together with 2003. Styria got lucky in fall (september, october) and missed out on a lot of the rain that other wine regions in Austria had to cope with.
