WTN: '06 Montelena Estate Cabernet

by David M. Bueker » Thu May 20, 2010 7:16 am

2006 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon 'Montelena Estate'
Too soon, too soon. Of course it is, but from 375ml it seemed lke a good idea to try one. I know that 2007 is supposed to be the bomb as far as California Cabernet vintages go, but I prefer them a little more understated. This shows that understatement in a classicially Montelea way - through balanced fruit, structure and overall complexity, but with a tannic shell that says "stay away" so soon in its life. So the rest will sleep a while to allow that shell to soften a bit.

Thanks for the review, Dave. I hadn't planned on opening any of my case of Montelena Estate '06 for many years.

The lure of the 375s was too strong.
