One more relatively unknown château that is just doing to break into the phalanx of Médoc’s leading Cru Bourgeois properties such as Poujeaux, Maucaillou, Haut-Marbuzet, Charmail, etc....
Poped and poured last night. This wine has a gorgeous dark ruby/purple color in the glass and a classic bouquet of dark fruits, cassis, licorice, spices, and vanilla that reminds me why I like Bordeaux so much since three decades. The complex attack of lovely black currant fruit, herbs, spices, fine oaked flavors, and a hint of caramel is as impressive as the excellent backbone of well balanced acidity and ripe yet grippy tannins and the complex, mineral finish. Unmistakeably Haut-Médoc.
This excellent wine is approachable and delicious now, but not on its peak, and will certainly benefit from another 4 or 5 years in the cellar. With a price of €12 a bottle this red Bordeaux isn’t going to kill your wallet. 90+.
