WTN: Fly like an Egly

Egly-Ouriet Champagne Brut "Les Vignes de Vrigny" 1er Cru NV
Delicious Champagne that makes a great stand in for red wine. There's plenty of depth and richness, and the mousse is elegant and fine. There may be a touch of back-end roughness, but it makes the wine seem even more "red" as it stands in for tannins. The group polished this off in 15 minutes with everyone wishing we had opened a magnum.

Hi David,

This is a house that is usually included in the "small top-flight" category.

I'm glad to see you enjoyed it.

I have one bottle of the 99 vintage. I had read that Egly uses a very low dosage and the wines don't keep all that long, but checking
on Cellartracker, I see that this is far from a unanimous view!

Best regards,
Alex R.

Well if my experience is any indication, the '96 vintage bottling has fallen apart - badly.
