Picked this up from Taylor's Market in Sacto based on their wine guy's recommendation. 13% alcohol, $22.
Nice ruby color in the glass. Slightly candied red fruit aromas. In the mouth, there's an initial, almost unctuous layer of raspberry flavor that becomes more tart in the mid-palate. It's backed by good acidity and drying tannins in the finish.
Overall, the raspberry fruit element was a bit too apparent for me, although not enough to keep me from enjoying this wine a lot. It went beautifully with a risotto flavored with morels and green garlic. A little much for the pork chops, though. This wine strikes me as one that has enough going on to keep a wine geek happy while being friendly enough to please a crowd. I'd like to see what this does with another few years on it.
