First post: value of signed bottle

by Todd V » Sun May 16, 2010 8:37 pm

Hi all, new guy signing on for the first time. I have a question about the value of a bottle. When I google I can find that something similar has appeared in auctions in the past, but there is no mention of a value. It's a 1996 Charles Krug Generations signed by Peter Mondavi Sr. Thanks for any information or points in the right direction!

Todd,

Welcome!

I doubt there is any kind of source for the info you seek, and honestly I think the bottle is likely more valuable to you than perhaps anyone else. Signed bottles (unless signed by someone more reclusive or long past) are rarely worth more than the bottle they are on. The one place where it may have more value is a charity auction.

I agree with David, unless someone is reclusive (not words one would use for any of the Mondavis) no real value change for a signature. This is usually a $30-45 bottling, though I see Blicker Pierce has the 96 for $19. From a value standpoint probably best to enjoy it yourself.

The only signed bottles I've seen going for a premium were Mouton signed by the recently deceased Baron.
