Every so often, when a wine club shipment arrives, it is accompanied by a recommended recipe to go with the wines. Either due to lack of planning or usually due to sheer laziness, I have never tried to replicate any of them. Not too long ago, I received a shipment from Holly's Hill which included a 2008 Grenache with a recipe for Thai Style Beef. Thai and Grenache? It was yesterday, a beautiful Saturday in Reno and so I decided to give it a go. I have had my on again off again love affair with Holly's Hill. Sometimes the high alcohol in their offerings makes itself front and center and sometimes it serves as very good background. I had little to lose anyways. Like I said, the day was nice and it was a Saturday and we had decided to see "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for the umpteenth time. The Thai Beef was splendid. The Grenache was a tad hot (14.7% alcohol) but somehow the wine went splendidly and there was general relief all around.
Like Ferris Bueller said" Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive."
