WTN: 2000 Chateau Lagrange (St. Julien)

by David M. Bueker » Tue May 11, 2010 8:45 pm

After the bitter disappointment of a corked 2000 La Prade (my last bottle), I grabbed the Lagrange to have with my steak. If I had been able to, decanting would have been beneficial, as after a hour or so the perfume on this wine was just lovely - floral, fruity, a more than a touch of the oak remaining but clearly on its way to full integration, and while the palate was not quite there, it did flesh out over time.

If you are really impatient then open one, but please give it a couple of hours of air. Better yet wait 3 or 4 more years. This is a beauty of wine, sleek, polished and seductive.

Thanks, we may open one this year, but definitely sit on the rest.

Thanks for the note David. Although, until reading the note to the end, I started to think out loud "not another one to try" after just opening the Cantenac Brown. But though the CB was good I will definitely wait a few more years on the Lagrange. Thankfully I have 375's and 750's to work from on this wine.
