From an area known almost exclusively as the home of Bogle comes this zin from estate grown grapes. 13.9% alcohol, $19.
Black cherry red in the glass. Interesting nose, particularly after having been open for a couple of hours. There's ripe dark fruit along with a heavy dose of funky leathery stuff. Very lively in the mouth with deep, slightly sweet blueberry-blackberry flavors balanced with plenty of bright acidity. Tannins are muted but supportive and it finishes with a nice lip-smacking character and no noticeable heat. I had it with chicken stir-fried with veggies and it was not at all overpowering - this is one zin that doesn't require grilled lamb to accompany it.
Good stuff and well worth the tariff.
