Enjoy Bordeaux - live video chat for the month of May

by Andrew Kwon » Mon May 10, 2010 10:59 am

Hi everyone,

My name is Andrew and I'm the social media manager of the EnjoyBordeaux account. We're responsible of http://www.enjoybordeaux.com and their online presence through social networks.

Last year we launched our marketing campaign, 'Le Wine Buff', a LIVE video chat with 6 wine lovers from all over the country. It's a great medium to ask wine related questions or just chat about wine - last year's was great.

We're doing it again this year, so I'd like to invite all of you to participate, and I'm really curious to hear your feedback on it, particularly those who are already knowledgeable of wine and are currently in online conversation.

http://www.enjoybordeaux.com/lewinebuff

We're having it every weekday this month. Here is a glimpse of this week's schedule (More updates will be posted!)

Monday, May 10th

1-2PM April

10-11PM Ward

Tuesday, May 11th

9-10PM Ward

Wednesday, May 12th

9-10PM Mollie

Also, we are hosting wine tastings in New York, Chicago, Chicago and Boston this year. We would love to have you! Free wine tasting! Please DM me if you're interested.

Hi Andrew,

I am confused by your opening line "Most of you are familiar with the brand (or at least the region), Bordeaux - I'm the social media manager of their account.".

Who is "they"/"their" please?

What is a social media manager?

Best regards,
Alex R.

It's CIVB, Alex. Did you click through to the Website? As a representative of regional or national wine trade group, I'm happy to have Andrew's participation here.

If you really don't know "social media" I respectfully suggest Google or Wikipedia. :)

All questions are welcome. A social media manager uses different social media platforms (ie. twitter, youtube, facebook etc.) to activate engagement with a product, company, event etc.

It's not a bad question at all, and the position sometimes has a loose meaning. Our recent campaign, Le Wine Buff, is just another example of the sort of project we might do to interact with people online.

Does that help and will you guys join tonight's event? :D

Thanks for those that came by last night! Can you guys comment on the over all experience? Is there something you would change?

There is another one tonight @ 9PM EST.

Andrew, as promised, I stopped in and chatted with Rob Monshein for a bit. Interesting guy--grew up in Beverly Hills, now lives in Austin. Got into wine when he went to college at Cambridge (England!) and a headmaster used to do some after hours wine education. Cut his teeth of Bordeaux and Burgundy--must have been nice. But I was surprised, based on what you said, to find it was more an Ask the Expert kind of thing than a roundtable discussion. Also, he's on audio, but the attendee(s) participate only by typing. Not a problem for me as I'm a very fast typist, but listening to him was difficult in that my year and a half old computer apparently doesn't operate at the same speed your broadcast does. There would be these gaps when Rob was speaking, but he wasn't blanked out so much as those words were saved and then transmitted on top of the new words he was now speaking, so the effect on my end was that he was talking over himself although of course, in real time he really wasn't. Since I was the only one there he and I had a fun conversation, but if I'd had to put up with the transmitting issues AND wait while he answered newbie questions, I'd have bailed.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Andrew, Robin,

Sorry, for the questions. I am unfamiliar with how the CIVB operates in the States, and only the telltale lettering of the name "Bordeaux" on the top left shows that it is indeed "The Bordeaux Wine Council" as the CIVB call themselves here.
I missed that when I clicked the link.

As for "social media manager" I guess this is another one of those jobs that simply didn't exist a couple of years ago.
Shows I am behind the times...

Bordeaux could sure use some good PR at the moment.
The confusion is worse than ever between the great growths (people are wincing, whinging, groaning, and bitching about the prices of these on Internet forums, but I'm willing to bet they will sell very well...) and the other 95% of Bordeaux.
Andrew, if you can help to promote the latter category, more power to you!!!
I am a huge fan!

It's interesting that you should refer to "brand Bordeaux", because just what that name means is the subject of a vast debate!

All the best,
Alex R.

Robin and Alex,

Thanks for the response. We've been trying to make the public more aware of the lower price Bordeaux - there are plenty of Bordeaux wines under $25 http://www.enjoybordeaux.com/choose/search/25/0/bestunder25

Have any of you seen the article recently from Eric Asimov in the New York Times? It was titled, Bordeaux Loses Prestige Among Younger Wine Lovers http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/19/dining/19pour.html

"For young Americans in particular, Bordeaux has become downright unfashionable...another significant barrier between young wine drinkers and Bordeaux is the absence of a charismatic advocate for the wines"

Those unfavorable sentiment are exactly why we started Le Wine Buff. Bordeaux is a great product, but they have a high-brow reputation of being detached.

I'm actually going to Bordeaux this Saturday for a week to shoot a promotional video of 5 wine bloggers that we're flying out, also known as our Le Wine Buffs.

The Chateaus I will be visiting are listed below....

Chateau Sainte Marie, Targon
Chateau Bonnet, Grezillac
Chateau des Laurets, Puisseguin Saint-Emilion
Chateau Haut Guillebot, Lagaignac
Chateau Marac, Pujols
Chateau d' Agassac, Cru Bourgeois, AOC Haunt-Medoc
Chateau Fleur La Mothe
Chateau Meyney
Chateau Serilhan

Any of you know these particular chateaus? Is there anything you'd like to see? The point of the video is to showcase the personalities of young wine drinkers, and their experience in Bordeaux.

Jenise, thank you so much for your response! I'm sorry it has taken so long to get back to you! I'll look into those technical issues. Do you think this could appeal to younger, more novice wine drinkers?
