Cracked this last night w/ my samwich:
1. AndreScherer PinotBlanc AV: Vin d'Alsace (12.5%) PeterWeygandtSelection 2008: Light yellow color; very perfumed/floral/almost Muscat- or GWT-like light stoney/metallic/PB lovely aromatic nose; somewhat tart dry light stoney/metallic/PB some floral/pineapply/R-like fairly lush flavor; med. bright/pineapply/floral/R-like light stoney/metallic/PB finish; a lovely old-timey Alsace at a great price. $14.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This was a wine that DaveMacDonald at MissionWines in SouthPasadena recommended I try last Monday morning; as a very nice Alsatian wine at a good price. I generally am not too fond of Alsace PB's in that I find the stoney/metallic character dominates and they often are rather austere on the palate. Not sure the Alsatians really treat it as a noble grape.
This PB had very strong aromatics that suggested GWT or R had been blended in to give it a lift. Yet that stoney/metallic character lurked there just below the surface. This was a producer I had never heard of before. It reminded me a lot of the old-timey Alsatian whites I used to buy, at around $3-$5/btl in the middle '70's; back afore the huge scores drove (most) everybody to the Z-H style. Not a serious or profound wine; this is a pretty wine that's just flat-out good-drinking...which is what wine should be all about. Would work w/ a quiche or tarte a l'oignon. Now I'm eager to try their GWT and R.
Thanks, Dave!!
