WTN: Dinner At The Tomasso's..(short/boring)

Dinner At Tomasso's
After stopping by the Qupe tasting room and meeting PaigeLindquist and two of the cutest little girls I
ever done see'd, I headed back to Buellton for dinner at the Tomasso's, John & Cindi. Joining us were Brad&
Maureen Harrington/WCWN. Roasted vegetables, a terrific ginger/carrot soup and wonderful grilled pork
tenderloin. A wonderful evening of good food/great wines, and the most special of friends.
Several of the wines tried were:
1. BonnyDoon RTW Calif LeCigareVolant (86.7% Grenache/10.5% Mourvedre/2% Syrah/.8% Cinsault) 1986: This btl
had considerable leakage and over 1/3'rd of the wine was ullaged away. Most everybody thought it'd be
totally dead&gone, but, having heavily ullaged btls like this before, I thought it'd still be alive.
It was, but barely. Med. murkey color w/ some browning; slight mousey/wet wool somewhat cedary/pencilly/oak
rather earthy/mushroomy nose w/ very slight strawberry fruit; rather tart/thin/lean quite earthy/mushroomy
light mousey/wet wool bit cedary/pencilly/oak smooth/elegant/polished flavor; med.long cedary/pencilly
fairly earthy/mushroomy slight mousey/wet wool smooth finish w/ little tannins; little fruit left but not
at all oxidized or gone; certainly on its last legs, though. Interesting wine and a survivor.

2. Flowers PinotNoir CampMeetingRidge 1998: Med.dark color; some black cherry/Pinot/spicy light pencilly/oak
slight smokey fairly complex nose; tart quite spicy/cherry/Pinot some smokey/toasty/pencilly/oak slight
earthy/dusty rather smooth/balanced flavor; long pencilly/cedary/smokey fairly cherry/spicy/Pinot smooth/
rich flavor w/ ligt tannins; a lovely fully-mature Pinot that's in a good place right now.

3. SineQuaNon Veiled PinotNoir SheaVnyd/Oregon (14.0%) 1998: Med.color w/ some bricking; somewhat walnutty/
very spicy fragrant black cherry/Pinot spicy/cinammon quite perfumed/complex nose; some tart very spicy/
cinammon light pungent/walnutty/earthy bright/cherry/earthy/Pinot light toasty/oak flavor w/ modest
tannins; very long quite spicy/cinammon strong walnutty/earthy/black cherry/Pinot light toasty/oak/smokey
complex finish w/ light tannins; quite a lovely/mature Pinot; the once-dominant oak has integrated very
nicely.

Remember the days when Flowers was the cat's meow?! It's seems like so long ago.

It does, doesn't it. Nice to see that one's still got it going on after 12 years. Thanks, Tom--this kind of news makes me bolder about buying older wines, though I realize one can't generalize.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
