WTN: Cefalu Family Vineyards "Michael Anthony"

by Brian K Miller » Wed May 05, 2010 10:55 am

From a tiny (125 cases) St. Helena estate on Silverado Trail. 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon crafted for the family by Bill Ballentine.

Quite restrained and balanced for an up-valley 2004 Cabernet, with a dark "roasted" (but not over-ripe) character which reminds me somewhat of some BV La Tours. Not a lot of fruit, this wine is more about structure, acidity. Somewhat oaky on the nose, but not in a particularly obtrusive or offensive way. Very fresh tasting to me, and the nose was interesting in how changeable it was from moment to moment. John Chandler rated it 92 points, with Kevin and I giving it a somewhat lower score (maybe a little more fruit for me!) 89 or so. Nice wine.

Yes, but would John Beresford Tipton buy it?

Thanks for the reference, Chef. Had never heard of this television show, but it offered an interesting premise.

The California Mega LOTTO was 266 million last night. I'm sure I could spend that if I won  On charity, of course.
