Was 2005 a good year throughout France (IE. Burghandy, Rhone, etc) or mainly just Bordeaux?

Also great in Burgundy, less so in the Rhone.

Why do you ask?

2005 was generally an outstanding vintage for red wines throughout France except along the Eastern Mediterranean rim. It was difficult to make bad wines so the importance of the producer is slightly less than usual. It was slightly more controversial for white wines which tend to be too rich for some palates.

my guess is that you only consider red wines to be 'real' wines. 2005 was not a particularly successful year for white bordeaux - not as good as the two following years certainly. similarly in loire -where the reds were good, but the whites a bit heavy. generaly speaking a good white wine vintage will not be so good for reds and vice versa. anyway, when i think of great vintages i tend to think of 1996, 2002, 2007 and others where dry white wines in many parts of france were particularly successful. sweet whites are a seperate item - with 1997 notable there - hardly a great red wine vintage most places.
