Notes from some of last week's more interesting wines at the Repertoire dinners
Chateau Chasse Spleen 2004 - Quite dark. Lightly smoky. Full and very dry. Very good and close to peak. Much better now than when I last tried this two years ago.
Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici 2003 - A little hot, leafy. Black olives. Rather full. Could probably age a bit more but already approachable now. Firm tannins. Refreshing aidity. Long, clean finish.
We also had a Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2000 but unfortunately it was a bad bottle. Badly oxidized.
Gosset Brut Grand Millesime 1999 - I didn't take any notes for this Champagne but I have enjoyed this in the past. While I generally avoid Champagne with dessert, this was paired very successfully with a chocolate dessert. The weight of the wine was able to support the richness of the chocolate as well as cleansig the palate for the next bite. Lovely Champagne.
