I say it is 2011 David. I promise. Care to wager? It's always the odd years lately.

Actually a pretty good article. 2004 is a good year.

David,

>>> The annual Bordeaux hype is so...embarrassing.

It's a bit like Christmas, isn't it?
And people keep falling for it, year after year...

Nothing new there. Actually a nice little article that shows a sense of restraint - not so much promoting Parker's opinion as merely reporting on it, and the effect it will have. Solid journalism there.

I agree with the principle, but you've got it all wrong - it will be 2051. By then global warming will actually result in port being made in Bordeaux, and the underground Cult of his Bobness (Incarnate Saviour of Wine) will ride out to convert the blasphemers who dare to speak in preference of the much more traditionally styled 2050 vintage.

More seriously, I go back and forth on whether I should give the vintage a pass, or find a more traditionally styled, value-priced wine. Being a Sauternes junkie however, sounds like the 2009's will be a must.

I will be 92 0n 2051. I don't know if I will care much about that vintage. :?

Hey, we're the same age, James. I've already got a few wines (Dunn Howell Mtn, Beaucastel, Latour) that can, in theory, go till 2050. I doubt that I'll give any of them that chance, but I can guarantee you that I won't be buying any vin de garde at that age! :D

Well, I'm already a spry 72 :D (tomorrow) but have stopped buying vins de garde. The 2009 "petits châteaux", as well as Loire, etc. could however be very interesting.

Incidentally, I find absolutely unimpeachable Parker's statement “it may turn out to be the finest vintage I have tasted in 32 years of covering Bordeaux”. Compare that to the inane headlines in the British press "the best ever" (even from Jancis though she qualified it in the article).
