WTN Paul Zinck Pinot Gris 2007

by Melissa Priestley » Sun Apr 25, 2010 4:57 pm

This wine clearly shows that the stunning 2007 vintage in Alsace is clearly reflected in wines at all tiers. I've had past vintages of this wine numerous times and it was always mediocre and rather forgettable. Not so with the 2007!

Earthy, mushroomy aromas along with wet stone, spritzy citrus, peach, and some honeyed overtones. The palate is slightly off dry - a bit of sweetness arrives mid-palate, but is washed away with a sunburst of acidity.

This made an absolutely beautiful pairing with a seafood mousse stuffed with mushroom, scallops and lobster in a basil cream sauce.

Screwcap closure. $21 per bottle - awesome value.

Just pulled my `07 out from the cellar! As I opened I thought we had a fire somewhere...smoke! Stay tuned. Should mention that the Brits think PG with Sushi is a good idea!? I would think Peking Duck might work better with this wine.

Guys, so far the Pinot Gris and the Pinot Blanc I've been drinking from Alsace 07 have both been super.

And I have more in the queue!

Hoke, are you seeing the 1 to 8 scale on the back label these days?

Bob.

Still spotty, Bob. Isn't it a voluntary thing, choice of the producers?
