WTN: Oregon Pinot

by J Bouchard » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:23 am

2002 Panther Creek Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard

Another one of the bottles that were part of the NCAA tourney bracket winnings. I am not familiar with this producer but have enjoyed many of the Pinots I have had from the Willamette Valley so I was interested in trying this. Opened this bottle with a dinner of cedar plank salmon and unfortunately I think this wines best days are behind it. Not much on the nose, faint hints of spice and wood are there but this wine is not giving anything up even after some extended time, just the notes of what once was. Tastes of a citrus/orange streak and some earthiness but again, not much going on. There is nothing holding this wine together, the structure and framework is non-existent and it leads to a rather tart finish. Not an enjoyable wine on this night.

oh well, c'est la vie.

I am surprised at the showing for your bottle. I would have expected better.

Maybe it was an off bottle, not sure, but Jen took some tastes and put it down and never went back, it was not her thing. I "toughed" it out for a little while longer to see if there was anything going on but it was not to be.

I, too, am surprised.

Count me as surprised too. Good vineyard source and (except for one year where they had a problem) consistently good production of Pinot.
