WTN: Rieslings and reds

Short notes from Sunday afternoon wines at Jojo's shop.

Fritz Haag Brauneberger Riesling Kabinett 2008 - A little petrol, lime, citrus rind. The acidity is pretty high. It needs it to balance the sweetness but this just has too much acidity making the wine rather angular. Good length. Hopefully some age can temper the acid.

Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett 2008 - A little smoky, mineral. Grape skins texture. Baking spices. Not as sweet as the Haag and a little weak in the finish.

As usual with Jojo, he had t hit us with a mystery red - Very fragrant nose. Beneath that, a touch of earth. Lots of fruit, very tannic and young. Cedar. Coffee. Very long. Slightly bitter in the very long finish. I thought it was Right Bank Bordeaux. Dominus 1997. Remarkably youthful. Excellent wine with many, many years left in it.

Donnhoff Kreutznacher Krotenpfuhl Riesling Spatlese 2007 - Slight sulfur on the nose. Very refined, gentle and balanced. Citrus rind. Very easy to drink. Lovely stuff.

Shea Wine Cellars Shea Vineyard Pommard Clones Pinot Noir 2007 - Candy on the nose. Milk chocolate. Very dry on the palate. Nobody is mistaking this for a Burgundy. Very New World in style. Not really my type.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
