WTN: 2004 Steele "Catfish Vineyard" Zinfandel

by Drew Hall » Sun Apr 25, 2010 7:40 am

I picked up a 2004 Steele Catfish Vineyard Zin on the way down to Ocean City Maryland this weekend and had it last night.... It was teriffic! From century old vines, this wine is a field blend of zin and at least 5 other unnamed grape varieties. This zin showed deep notes of zinberry, blackberry, ripe raspberry, bramble and spice, rather rustic. The finish was very long. 13.5% Alc/vol. $22 from my favorite wine shop above Lewis Delaware. Paired with bbq ribs, fries and slaw. Less than 1000 cases produced.

Coincidence. I tasted the 2007 Catfish Zin on Friday. To me it seemed a little more substantial than past vintages I have had of this but still very tasty and not rustic. I have enjoyed all the Steele Catfish Zins I have tried.

Had another last night with a meal of spicy, sauteed Corvina. Still showing the same, delicious!
