I usually don't have much use for MSR Spaetburgunder (I prefer those from the Ahr or Rheingau), but this one is quite nice if maybe a little one dimensional. BRIGHT Cherry and Raspberry fruit, coriander spice, tobacco, and cedar chips. It's the first Pinot from Thanisch that I've tried, but most of the Mosel versions I've had (even from 2003) have been rather weedy and thin with more cabbage and celery and far less fruit. There's still not much acid or tannin to speak of, but this wine would certainly give a lot of Cali Pinots a fight for the money (I think I paid around $25)-especially those from Carneros. 14.0% Alcohol but not hot at all.
Prost!
