WTN: Two perfect, oxymoronic wines (Kras & Muscadet)

Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Granite de Clisson 2007 - France, Loire, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine label
12% abv; Old vines (40yo+) from Granite soils; 24 months ageing on lees. Outstanding. Or perhaps even better. Maybe perfect (fuck the philosophers who say perfection cannot materialize in the physical world). The aroma is pervaded by white flowers, rocks and friendly rather than stern citrus. Quite full body for Muscadet, but with all the crunch and crispness I love in this style. Grippy, relatively rich palate with a wonderfully friendly, acid mouth-wash finish.

Čotar Teran 2006 - Slovenia, Primorska, Kras label
23,50€; 11,5% abv; Teran is the Karst name for Refosco. A delightful scent: a little reminiscent of Sangiovese in its sour cherry and damp earth aromas. Deliciously sour on the palate, good acidity, vibrant and bracing yet friendly and great fun. Such a purity of un-sweet fruit with such crunchy structure means a furious evaporation rate. Quite the perfect wine with some cured ham.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
