Article about an old friend

by Howie Hart » Wed Apr 14, 2010 5:01 pm

I've known Don Demaison since the early 1980s when I would help him harvest grapes in exchange for grapes for my home winemaking. We also were co-chairmen of a local home wine competition for several years. Some of you may have met him at last year's NiagaraCOOL. I currently have 2009 Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Lemberger from his grapes (the two latter have yet to be bottled). Here is a link to an article about him that I thought I'd share: http://lennthompson.typepad.com/lenndevours/2010/01/perseverance-pays-off-for-niagara-grower.html.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

I doubt Don will remember me, but I remember him. He is a great guy. His juice is great. A very nice story. Good luck to him! Thanks for sharing Howie!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

Howie,
Let me know if any of his juice is available this year. I think it's time for me to take another tour of Niagara wineries too.

Uhhhh....errrrrrrr.....Howie....shouldn't that title read "long time" friend??? Some of us can be a little sensitive about those things!!! :D

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing it. What's the Lemberger/Blaufrankisch like?? That's a variety I like a lot.

Yes - "long time" friend, even if he is older than me. I haven't bottled my Lemberger/Blaufrankisch yet, but plan on doing so in the next few weeks. Sampling from the carboy shows a unique pepperiness, as in black pepper. A few days ago, Don gave me a bottle that he made. I will try it when I finish mine, so as to compare.
