WTN: Cuvee Prestige Bourgogne Chardonnay 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Apr 13, 2010 7:30 pm

Maison Francois Martenot

Deep yellow/gold in the glass.

Spicy, vanilla-caramel on the nose.

Spicy, honey, pear, lots of oak (caramel and vanilla), rather sweet, toast, medium weight, viscous, rich, round in the mouth, good acidity. With time, and perhaps warming, the wine began to reveal some lemon-lime and even a hint of grapefruit (which I find very odd in a Chardonnay).

Sweet, tangy, mouthwatering on the finish.

I found this wine quite disappointing: massively over-oaked, simple and one dimensional.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian).

Massive oaking on basic Bourgogne is always (IMO) a mistake. There's not enough wine there.
