WTN: Nothing to Understand

2002 Closel Savennières Clos du Papillon
So endeth my story with this wine. Last bottle and it showed perplexing as ever. Rocky hard firm broad-shouldered Anjou alcoholic wine (14.5%) but with a lovely suave elegance to the texture and some enjoyable mellowing orange citrus honey hay flavors. Far be it from me to predict the future of this wine, but my time with it was interesting. And would have been even better with the alcohol a bit less evident. But I’m niggling. Every wine can’t do everything.

2006 Michel Tete Juliénas Domaine du Clos du Fief Cuvée Prestige
Young and grapey but with a lot more depth than a bottle from 3 months ago. Why? I have no idea. But with a bit of air this was so lovely to gulp with a dinner based on carrot and pecorino omelette and roasted potatoes. Succulent, juicy, firm, crunchy, soft, floral, deep, stoney, broad, detailed… Don’t try to piece it all together, just enjoy drinking.

2005 Jacques Puffeney Arbois Poulsard M
I was expecting this to be difficult but it was beautiful beautiful at the corkpull. For the first few hours the fragile pale fragrant yet flavorful Poulsard juices are a delight to behold and go perfectly with my spinach, black trumpet, and sun-dried tomato pizza. With too much air the wine becomes more awkward, darker, and harder (literally) but then it pokes its head out and emerges from time to time with that trembling fragile clarity that is so much fun.
