Grand Cru Classe
Sant Julien
Decanted about 45 minutes before supper.
Still surprisingly dark in the glass, with some browning on the rim.
Black olive, earthy, spicy, floral on the nose.
Started out rather bitter, but, with each succive glass, the wine improved and revealed something else. Light to medium bodied, roasted, a bitter streak, cinnamon, light cherry and raspberry, floral, tobacco, leather.
Bitter and drying, with some stewed fruit on the finish.
This is one of the last few bottles from a case I bought upon release. Of greater significance, 1990 is the year my lovely wife and I got married.
Quite nice, for a wine that probably should have been consumed some time ago.
