WTN: N.V. Languedoc Carrignan Blend

Axel Prufer "Le Temps des Cerises" Fou de Roi Red Blend. Vin de Table Biodynamic. Old vines. Minimal added sulfur
Hipster cartoony label with a shouting woman's face (and a HUGE hand) I thought she looked like a fishmonger's wife...or Rosie the Riveter. Others were not even sure she was female. Definitely has the trademark hipster
"Natural" "Biodynamic character. Was it Rahsaan who was commenting on this distinctive character of these wines? What does that mean as far as expression of "terroir"?

But anyway: the hipster red plum and cherries. This is a fantastic wine for sniffing, with herbs?, the red plum, bright acidity, and a core, almost like a beam of olfactory "light" running down the middle of the nose that included elements of brown sugar and spice.

On the palate, however, the wine is in no way sweet. The red plum dominates, as do the herbs. Minerality? A touch of funk. What stood out to me is the richness, the depth of flavor in this wine. Not California or Australia jammy, just smooth plushness and deep flavor, even though this is a "red fruited" wine. Some hipster wines taste a little "thin" to someone with a California palette...not this wine. Anise and cinnamon show also??? Very interesting and we all enjoyed it...even while drinking a huge California wine made by a local Vacaville duo. (from Oakville fruit, not 106 degree July temperatures Vacaville fruit. )

I thought we all agreed on this. Any recipe (new oak, low sulfur, carbonic maceration) can overwhelm terroir when used poorly!!

Otherwise, sounds like a fun wine. I had some earlier versions from this producer that were very interesting. Including one bottling that was a 'mistake' and didn't properly ferment or something, but was still delicious young in Paris wine bars.

We probably did agree on this. Everyone enjoyed the wine last night, even the wine maker for the big California wine I was talking about in passing.
